The concept of biodiversity should be applied to the whole web of life, which is supported in tropical forests. In Kenya very little climax forest now remains. With excessive exploitation the original dominants have been extensively replaced by degraded forest types in which biodiversity has been reduced and prospects of satisfactory regeneration of original dominants have been extensively replaced by degraded forest types in which biodiversity has been reduced and the prospects of satisfactory regeneration of original dominants are extremely uncertain. Some silvicultural treatments for conservation and rehabilitation of degraded forests are suggested. Conservation though would be greatly assisted by defined National Forest Parks and Reserves under the joint management of the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Forest Department. This has lately been initiated in the important Memorandum of Understanding issued jointly by these departments.
