The eight chapters in this report on workshop proceedings held from the 11th 14th March 1998 in Machakos, Kenya, cover the following topics: Why a resource tenure institute, review of land tenure systems and management of natural resources, tenure and wildlife conservation management, issues in water resource tenure, issues in tenure and forests, gender and resource tenure, overview of resource tenure policy direction in Kenya, and the way forward. The workshop programme and a list of participants are also given at the end of this report.
