Long snout bullhead (Korean name: jong-eo), Leiocassis longirostris, is commonly believed to be extinct in Korea and stock recruitment of this species is under development now. Cytogenetic and molecular studies of leiocassis longirostris imported from China were carried out to provide basic chromosomal information for genetic improvement of this species. Totally 219 metaphase plates were observed and the results revealed that the modal chromosome number is 52 with 9 metacentric pairs, 8 submentacentric pairs and 9 acrocentric pairs.
