Korau is the only settlement scheme established with the express purpose of re-settling forest dwellers from the Mau Forest Complex. This appraisal scheme looks closely at the Korau Re-settlement Scheme, where a certain number of forest dwellers have already been resettled, in order to identify lessons for further re-settlement. A number of issues and the methods used to tackle them are discussed. These issues are; the physical planning of the settlement, organization and management of the scheme, support services associated with the scheme, economic basis, extent to which settlers continue to use the forest, and the extent to which settlers have remained resident at the scheme.
