The main statistical data on solar radiation in Latvia are given. Theoretical and experimental investigation in Ulbroka Research Centre and Aizkraukle Regional Gymnasium has been carried out. Existing solar installations for domestic water heating in Latvia are examined and with similar systems in some other European Union countries are compared. The prime cost of 1 kWh heat energy produced by Ulbroka solar collectors is calculated. At the town of Aizkraukle the biggest in the Baltic States flat plate solar collectors system works providing hot water for the Aizkraukle regional gymnasium and towns boiler-house.
