Present problems of regional development seem complicated as transformation happens in the time of changes in European and world economy (integration, globalization). The challenge for regions is efficient system of social and economical relations. A regional strategy of development is required. All Polish voivodships (regions) face the same problems. Regions become essential units able to create growth and social activity. The access to the EU allows regions to realize strategies of growth and minimize regional differences in development basing on their endogenous potential. Changes in main directions of intervention in regional development are possible and expected.
