A study was undertaken to investigate economic status of 83 broilerfarms in Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan during the year 1998-99. Averagefixed cost per broiler (Rs. 51.92) represented Rs. 48.51 and Rs. 3.41,respectively as building construction and equipment cost. Averagevariable cost, gross return and net profit per broiler was Rs. 63.42 plusminus 1.97, Rs. 77.16 plus minus 1.61 and Rs. 13.74 plus minus 2.29,respectively. Average turn over rate of net profit over the investedcapital on per flock and annual basis was 24.17 plus minus 2.36 and127.70 plus minus 13.90%, respectively. Feed cost was the majorcomponent contributing 60.27% to the total cost. All the farmers werefollowing almost similar standard vaccination practices; thus, its effect oncost of production and net profit was not established. Rate of mortality, flock size, number of flocks per year, duration between two batches, feed efficiency and broiler's age at the time of marketing didn't affectcost of production and net profit per broiler. Hygienic conditions at thefarm, weight at marketing, floor space utilization and house, construction, significantly (p less than 0.01) affected net profit perbroiler. Aside from better management, stable market, better utilization ofavailable facilities, appropriate house construction, accelerated gain inweight at the lowest market age and maintenance of standard hygienewould further improve profitability from broiler flocks in districtChakwal.
