Wesolowski, M. | Betkowski, M.(Akademia Rolnicza, Lublin (Poland). Katedra Ogolnej Uprawy Roli i Roslin)
The paper presents the results of studies conducted between 1991-94 on grey brown podzolic soil formed from loess. The number, mass and species composition of weeds in a sugar beet stand cultivated on 6 fertilization objects and two levels of plant protection were determined. It was proved that no-manure cultivation caused only a slight increase of quantitative indexes of sugar beet infestation as compared to the plots fertilized with manure. Intensive treatment of sugar beet significantly decreased the number (by 38.9 percent) and mass (by 74.8 percent) of weeds in comparison with extensive treatment. The dominating weed species in a sugar beet included the following: Galinsoga parviflora, Viola arvensis, Stellaria maedia, Chenopodium album, Elymus repens and Cirsium arvense
