Some lichen species are used to estimate environmental pollution. The aim study was to evaluate the air pollution with some heavy metals (Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu) on the basis of their content level in Hypogymnia physodes (L.) Nyl. The lichens distributed at different points of a city of various material was analysed by means of reversed volamperommetry. At sites of the least environmental pollution 10.3 mg Zn/kg DM was found, and the degraded one - 18.1 mg Zn/kg DM. The highest level of Zn was observed in the zone of the highest pollution (43.4 mg Zn/kg DM). Highly significant differences between zinc content in medium pollution environment and in strongly polluted on were observed. Maximum Cd was found in areas of low environment degradation, and minimum in highly polluted sites. No significant differentiation was found in lichens exposed in the environments of medium and great degradation levels. Significant differentiation of Cu content in lichens depending on the level of their degradation was proved only in lichens in medium and maximum degradation level environment
