A comparison of methods of determination of the content and composition of essential oils from the fruits of lovage has been made in the present work. The research was carried out in the years 2000 and 2001 by determining the content of water, carbohydrates, proteins, and essential oil. The content of essential oil ranged from 1.90 percent to 2.40 percent. Monoterpenes and phtalides were the main components of the essential oil. The main component of the terpene fraction was beta-phellandrene, the content of which ranged from 42.3 percent to 66.0 percent, depending on the determination method. The main component of the phtalide fraction was cis-ligustilide, the content of which ranged from 11.3 percent to 21.0 percent, depending on the method of determination
