Evaluation of alternative drying methods and storage techniques on the storability of sorghum (sorghum bicolor) seeds in genebank
2004
Babiker, A.Z.
The objectives of this study was: to determine the effect of some low cost alternative drying methods i.e. sun, shade and silica gel drying on the seed quality of sorghum, to determine the optimum stage for sorghum seed harvest so as to maximized seed longevity in storage, and to determine the optimum and critical moisture content to which sorghum seed can be dried. Five accessions of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Monech) PI 570342 (Feterita), PI 570356 (Hegeri), PI 570120 (Kafir), PI 570300 (Milo) and the cultivar Tabat were used in this study. Seeds were obtained from both, genebank and Gezera Research Station of the Agricultural Research Corporation, Wad Medani. Samples were grown in the field of Gezira Research Station
