Efficacy of amitraz in the treatment of canine demodicosis

Efficacy of Amitraz in the treatment of canine demodicosis was evaluated in 10 dogs, aged 5 months to 3 years. The concentration of 250 ppm was applied at 14-day-intervals. Clinical observation and blood examination were done in order to study the drug adverse effect. The results revealed that three dogs were cured, four dogs were still infected throughout the experiment and three dogs died. Average number of the treatments in cured dogs were 6.67. The adverse effects were presented in two dogs with signs of depression, salivation and anorexia after the first treatment. There was no evidence of blood value alteration. The result of this experiment was relatively infavorable.
