Effect of NaCl in zarouk's medium on growth, productivity and compositions of Spirulina strain, marked BP was investigated. Inoculum grown in zarouk's medium (condition I) subjected to medium containing 0 (control medium), 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 M NaCl in laboratory condition. It was observed that Spirulina grown in control medium showed the highest specific growth rate, protein, total fatty acid, gammalinolenic acid, chlorophyll and phycocyanin content. These compositions decreased with increasing NaCl concentration in contrast to carbohydrate content. The highest carotenoid content was obtained in Spirulina grown in medium containing 0.1 M NaCl. The productivity was not significant difference in Spirulina grown in control medium and medium containing 0.1 M NaCl. NaCl concentration in medium also changed in fatty acid profile. Spirulina acclimatized in medium agar slant for 1 month was used as inoculum (condition II). At the same NaCl concentration, Spirulina in condition II showed less specific growth rate and other compositions except carbohydrate.
