Production potential for export of Siamese fighting fish in Changwat Nakhon Pathom

Siamese Fighting Fish is Thai native ornamental fish that has long been cultured in Thailand. 2 kinds of them are popular to be cultured, Long Fin and Short Fin. Long Fin is cultured mostly for export purpose which has main production area in Changwat Nakhon Pathom. The objective of this study was to know the production potential of Siamese Fighting Fish (Long Fin) farmers in Changwat Nakhon Pathom. The general characteristics, cost and return of Siamese Fighting Fish producers and production function have been analyzed for this objective. The result of the study showed that the farmers cultured Siamese Fighting Fish 17 crops per year. The duration per crop was 126.69 days approximately. Cost of production per crop (fix and variable cost calculated both cash and non-cash) was 23,783.87 Baht (8,430.65 pieces per crop). The net profit was 2,181.42 baht per crop. The economic function of producting expansion was in the stage of constant return. The farmers had rather high production potential. However, there were market sized fish management in some seasons factor as well as planning and controlling of male fish production factor which remain need support and promote from the concerned sector.
