Thrips palmi Karny, the only one thrips species was found in orchid culture area of Thailand. It is an important pest due to direct feeding on orchid cut flower that causes the quality of flower below the standard, damage causes a quality loss of orchid cut flower, and orchid export to EU faces problems on quarantine pest and sanitary and phytosanitary. Field experiments of differently colored sticky traps for catching thrips on orchid were conducted at Nakornpathom and Bangkok in 1998-1999. The result showed that bright blue, yellow, white and blue sticky traps caught more adult thrips than transparent significantly. The numbers of captured thrips on green, orange and transparent sticky traps were simularly low. The transparent sticky trap had the lowest number of thrips, indicating that color sticky traps are more effective in trapping thrips. Number of T. palmi was highest in the white and bright blue sticky traps. There was no significant difference among the numbers of T. palmi capture by these two color traps. It is concluded that white and bright blue colors are the most effective in the capture of T. palmi on orchid. The commercial sticky trap, white Fly Finder, caught more adults of T. palmi than yellow plastic big significantly.
