Determinations of calcium (Ca) contents in various parts of samples by atomic absorption spectroscopy were compared between the sample preparation in the absence or presence of lanthanum (La). Parts of plant samples used were stems, leaves and grains. The samples tested were corn straws, rice straws, grasses, oil palm leaves, sesbania, rice grains, corn grains and peanut grains. The samples were digested with the mixture of acids (conc. HNO3 : conc. H2SO4 : conc.HC1O4 5:1:2). The digested plant samples were supplemented with La in the rate of 0, 0.25 , 0.50, 0.75, 1.0 or 1.50 percent. It was shown that the plant samples prepared in the presence of La gave higher Ca Content than those in the absence of La. Samples of stems and leaves prepared in the presence of 0.75 percent of La gave 5 times higher amount of Ca than those without La while at the same concentration of La, the grain samples gave 17 times higher Ca content than those without La.
