Comparison of 25 melon cultivars for the greenhouse and field production was conducted on the farm of the Suranaree University of Technology, Nakhon Ratchasima during June-September, 2000. The design was split-plot in CRD with 2 replications. Main plots were the greenhouse and field and subplots were cultivars. The results indicated that most cultivars grown in the greenhouse had more harvestable yield percentage than that of the field-grown crop. Fruit weight and sugar content were different. Cultivars CANARIAN, TNME5,TNME7,OVATION,BLUE GEM, TM1-1,ESM-1,EMERAL SWEET and MAE JO 98A had the highest fruit weight (between 1,489-1,898 gram/fruit) under the greenhouse and field condition. MG702 and YUME were suitable for the greenhouse, while A102, TNME9 and MG1026 were best for the field. Cultivars CANARIAN, MN1244,MG702,TNME7 and OVATION had the highest sugar content (eventhough moderately low of 7.03-8 deg brix) under the greenhouse, but ML001, SUNLADY, A102 and JING-YOUN had highest content (10.38-12.31 deg brix) under the field condition.
