Responses of groundnut cv. Khon Kaen 5 to the rates of swine manure application
1999
Mana Ruangjui (Rajamangala Institute of Technology. Kalasin Campus, Kalasin (Thailand))
Experiment was conducted at Rajamangala Institute of Technology Kalasin campus farm in the rainy season of 1998 with the aim of evaluating the responses of groundnut cultivar Khon Kaen 5 to the recommended chemical fertilizer and different rates of swine manure. There were 5 treatments in the study i.e. no fertilizer application (control treatment), fertilizer application at the recommended rates of 3-9-6 kilograms per rai of N, P2O5 and K2O respectively, and swine manure application at the rates 1, 2 and 3 tons per rai, respectively. A randomized complete block design with 4 replicates was used. The results revealed that groundnut cultivar Khon Kaen 5 responded significantly to chemical fertilizer and swine manure application in terms of dry pod yield, shelling percentage, 100 seed weight and number of pod per hill. The control treatment (no fertilizer application) was the poorest in all parameters measured. Chemical fertilizer application at the recommended rates gave significantly higher pod yield and other parameters than the control treatment and the pod yield was similar to the application of swine manure at the rate of 1 ton per rai. Swine manure application at the rate of 2 tons per rai gave the highest dry pod yield, shelling percentage, 100 seed weight and number of pod per hill and were statistically different from those obtained from the chemical fertilizer application treatment. It is therefore concluded that swine manure application at the rate of 2 tons per rai could increase the yield of groundnut cv. Khon Kaen 5 and was superior to the recommended rate of chemical fertilizer application.
