Comparisons on cowpea varieties were conducted as two experiments, i.e. for fresh pod and grain yield production. Eight cowpea lines were used in the first experiment conducted from July 6 to September 16, 1997. The latter of 5 cowpea lines was carried out from November 15, 1997 to January 21, 1998. For fresh pod production, Local North Eastern line significantly out performed in pod length and pod weight (37.1 cm and 15.8 g, respectively). But brown seed line promisingly produced the highest yield of 1,151 kg/rai. In addition, it gave early blooming date (40 days), moderately long pod, and tended to produce the highest pod number per plant. Considering grain yield from the second experiment, it was found that the highest yield of 165 kg/rai was obtained from B1 line. Apart from that, it yielded the highest grain weight, number of grain per pod and number of pod per plant.
