Study on the species diversity of economically important aquatic animals conducted in the mangrove forest surrounding the Faculty of Science and Fisheries Technology, Trang province from July 1995 to June 1996. Fourty seven families (81 species) of economically important aquatic animals were recorded. The samples included 3 species of shrimp (24.66 percent of sample), 6 species of crabs (13.44 percent sample) 4 species of squids (1.34 percent if sample), as well as 67 species of fishes (60.92 percent) respectively. The average number of species of aquatic animals was : 6.17, 4.50, 5.92, 8.53, 5.17, 6.50, 6.58, 6.92 and 5.00 respectively. The average number of aquatic naimals was: 26.50, 20.75, 24.42, 17.25, 26.92, 30.08, 31.58, 33.08 and 18.00 respectively. There was no statistically significant difference found between the species number and average number of aquatic animals between stations 1 to 9.
