Diversity of algae in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary
1999
Study on blue-green algae and green algae in Deciduous Dipterocarp Forest and Mixed Deciduous Forest at Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary was investigated. In samples collected during rainy season, winter and summer, blue-green algae of 4 orders 7 families 21 genera and green algae of 6 orders 13 families 31 genera were observed. In Deciduous Dipterocarp Forest, the blue-green observed distributed in 4 orders 7 families 18 genera and the green algae distributed in 6 orders 13 families 31 genera. Predominant blue-green algae found were Oscillatoria and Lyngbya, while Lyngbya, Oscillatoria, Phormidium and Tolypothrix were detected in large number. For green algae, the commonly found genera were chlorella and Ulothrix. In Mixed Deciduos forest, blue-green algae observed were 4 orders 7 families 20 genera and green algae in 5 orders 9 families 17 genera. Predominant blue-green algae found wre lyngbya and Oscillatoria, while Lyngbya, Oscillatoria, Anabaena and Cylindrospermum were detected in large number. For green algae, the most commonly genus was Protococcus. This investigation showed that green alage were found most abundantly in species in rainy season in both types of forest. Blue-green algae were observed more frequently in winter than in other seasons. Only a few genera of microalgae were found in summer. Isolation by using micromanipulation technique, resulted in blue-green algal isolates which belonged to 8 genera of Anabaena, Calothrix, Chroococcus, Lyngbya, Myxosarcina, Oscillatoria, Phormidium and Scytonema and green algal isolates in 6 genera of Chlamydomonas, Chlorella, Haematococcus, Protococcus, Scenedesmus and Ulothrix.
