The Lesotho National Seed Centre is now a functional body in forestry research under the umbrella of Forestry in the Department of Conservation Forestry and Land Use Planning. It is whollly charged with the entire tree seed handling, storage and distribution to the end users. The end users mainly comprise local communities, churhes, schools and non-governmental organisations. The centre started off from a minute research sideline responsibility. The forestry research task from 1979 was to ensure the sufficient supply of tree seed to goverment nurseries and also ensured that all nurseries were functional. Later in 1981, a small capacity storeroom and one refrigerator were set aside to house and store tree seed that was purchased from the Republic of South Africa and elsewhere.
