Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRAs) were conducted in five districts covering three provinces. The districts are: Hwange and Bubi in Matebeleland North, Zaka and Mwenezi in Masvingo and Beitbridge in Matebeleland South. The main objectives of this research were to: 1.Identify Indigenous Fruit Tree (IFT) species that local communities are interested in planting. 2.Identify the preferred Indigenous Fruit Tree products and assess their market potential. 3.Establish the potential for domesticating the selected IFTs. Results of the PRAs demonstrate the extent to which communities can be involved in re-greening activities. Indigenous Fruit Trees are very important in meeting household needs, especially in rural areas. However, little has been done to assess the contibution of IFTs to such needs. Most of Zimbabwe's communal woodlands/forests are under increasing pressure due to continued agricultural expansion and the over reliance on forests for food, fuelwood, thatch grass, etc. One of the solutions to ensure continued use of IFTs are a source of livelihood (food and income ) is their domestication.
