Young, sexually matured small rodents from Apodemus sp. and Mus sp., inhabiting the investigated agroecosystems were used as monitors. Cytogenetic analysis was conducted by investigating chromosome preparations from marrow and thigh bone cells. The male individuals from Mus sp. were chosen as main monitors. The males from Apodemus sp. inhabiting the preservation area had higher susceptibility to environmental genotoxic pollution in comparison with Mus sp. The results obtained show that cytogenetic monitoring in small rodents from natural populations can be applied as a preliminary screening in conducting profound investigations regarding ecological purity of agricultural production in biological agriculture.
