An increased content of humus in the sward-podzolic light loamy soil is accompanied by the increase of the capacity of cation exchange. This results in the decline of humus reaction capacity as well as in the decline of compensation rate of a humus unit and in the increase of its relative content. The optimal content of humus for barley and winter rye is on the level of 1,52-2,80% at his reaction capacity in interval 6,50-9,60 units. While evaluation the soil humus condition one can consider only itsreaction capacity because it is not necessary to carry out long tests to determine
