In total, 12 black currant cultivars and hybrids - "Zagadka", "Katyusha", "Yadrenaya", "Chernii Zhemchug", "Joniniai", "Mara", "Selechenskaya", "Lentyaj", No.67, "Stor Klas", AA-98 and No.3579 (R.nigrum/R.petiolare) were grown, collected, and frozen in Dobele State Horticultural Plant Breeding Research Station, Latvia and analysed for soluble solid, total acids, color (total anthocyanins), and ascorbic acid contents in Aarsev Research Station, Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences. The best of examined genotypes were AA-98 (high contents of ascorbic acid and color, and low content of total acids) and ""Joniniai" (high contents of ascorbic acid). Berries of AA-98 and "Selechenskaya" had the lowest acids/sugars ratio; therefore these cultivars can be rated as the most valuable for fresh consumption with relatively sweet taste of berries
