The effect of genotype and the environment on yield components in Novi Sad wheat varieties

Phenotypic variability, as well as stability for the stem height and grain weight per spike for 4 wheat varieties in 8 vegetation periods has been investigated. The stability has been studied using the approach of Eberhart and Russell (1966). Further genotype by environment interaction studies have been conducted using Additive Main and Multiplicative Model (AMMI), Gauch and Zobel, 1997. According to the results, the most stable reaction appeared to show variety Balkan for the stem height, and variety Jugoslavija for grain weight per spike. AMMI analysis revealed high significancy of the first and second principal component (PCA 1 and PCA 2) for the stem height, and the first three principal components (PCA 1, PCA 2, PCA 3) for the grain weight per spike.
