Stamenkovic, S.(Naucni institut za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, Novi Sad (Serbia and Montenegro))
The number of Senn pest imagoes overwintering in the premanently monitored locations of the Fruska Gora mountain and Deliblato Sands, Vojvodina (Serbia (Serbia and Montenegro)) in the fall of 2004 was 41.2 imagoes per square meter. This was a reduction in relation to 2003 (52.9 individuals per square meter), but this number of still significantly above the critical threshold (30 individuals per square meter). In alternative locations (surroundings of Vrsac, Subotica and Backa Topola), the numbers ranged from 19.4 to 77.4 imagoes per square meter. Eurygaster maura was predominant in both permanently monitored locations (62.1%), followed by Eurygaster austriaca (34.6%) and species from the genus Aelia (3.3%). It was the first record of E. maura being dominant in both locations. In the alternative locations in the surroundings of Subotica and Backa Topola, E. maura was absolutely predominant (95.6-97.6%). In the surroundings of Vrsac, the number was similar to that found in the Deliblato Sands. Based on the counts made at overwintering sites in the fall of 2004, which were significantly above the critical threshold (30 imagoes per square meter), serious problems with Senn pest may be expected in the 2005 growing season. The actual situation, however, will depend on a number of additional factors among which most important are the climatic conditions in the period April-June and the activity of egg parasitoids during the same period.
