Agbaba, J.
In this thesis the effects of physico-chemical processes in drinking water preparation treatment (coagulation, floculation, adsorption, ozonization and ion exchange) on organic matter content in groundwater (from depth 160-220 m) from territory of North Banat were, which serves as a source of drinking water for municipality of Kikinda and is characterized with high total organic content (average 5.1 mg/l), were determined. Results showed that raw water ozonization and powder activated carbon pretreatment before coagulation has influenced decreasing of oxygen demand (63-83%), UV254 apsorbance (79-88%) and TOC content (26-65%) in dependence of ozone dosage, AUP dosage and coagulant dosage and type. Investigation of main ozonization effects on POM content in coagulated water in dependence on conditions and types of pretreatment processes (preozonization, adsorption on AUP, pH correction) showed that the ozonization generally decreases natural organic matter content in water, but is strongly influenced by the ozone dosage and conditions of pretreatment processes. Water treatment using GAU filters has been done with the aim of determining its efficiency in POM removal and as well for the adsorption affinity based on a different water quality parameters. Microflora on coal is characterized by microbiological analysis and respirometric measurements showed its biodegradable grade activity of POM adsorbed on coal. Simulation of disinfection conditions in distribution system, kinetic measurement of residual concentration of chlorine and formed trihalomethanes indirectly has gave the answer regarding the consumer water quality after different treatment processes from the aspects of chlorine residual concentration and desinfection by-products content. Ion-exchange showed efficiency for organic matter decrease and can be used as an alternative technological solution for POM removal using investigated groundwater.
