Effect of nickel on dry matter mass and chemical composition of young pea plants

In young pea plants, in semi-controlled conditions of a glasshouse, by the method of water culture, the effect of nickel on dry matter mass, as well as mineral nutrition was investigated. Lower nickel concentrations, 10E-8 and 10E-7 M, had stimulating effect on shoot and root dry matter accumulation. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium contents were not significantly affected by applied nickel concentrations in the nutrient media. On the contrary, magnesium and especially iron contents greatly depended on the amount of available nickel.
