Harvest of seed maize starts when the grain moisture amounts to 35-38%, i.e. when the grain reaches its full physiological maturity. A high grain moisture directly affects the decrease of seed shedding at harvest, as well as , the reduction of the adverse effects of different pathogens and pests. Due to earlier harvest, the duration of the period from harvest to the beginning of drying can have a crucial effect in gaining quality of seeds. The organization of harvest and receipt of the ears of seed maize has to provide the shortest possible period from harvest to drying. The present study actually presents the effect of the duration of the period from harvest to drying on seed quality.
