Some results for the radioactive contamination by 137Cs of the bioindicator species (mosses and edible mushrooms) nineteen years after the accident at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl (Ukraine) are presented in this paper. All the bioindicator samples are still contaminated by 137Cs which is very adversely especially for the woodland fruits - edible mushrooms, because of the possible radiation body burden for the inhabitants. It was noticed that 137Cs activity levels decreased with time much faster than it should be refered to the physical half life of this radionuclide in the all samples analysed. The heavy metals content were determined in only one sample of mosses, to get some insight about the contamination level of the environment where sample was growing.
