Endotherapy effects on the control of Cameraria ohridella [Aesculus hippocastanum L.; Lombardy]

Tree injections have been widely used in Italy after the record of the leafminer Cameraria ohridella Deschka et Dimic., which is spread in parks and tree lined avenues, on the common horse-chestnut, Aesculus hippocastanum L.. Due to the impossibility to isolate entire areas, the direct introduction into the trunk of the active principle without its dispersion into the environment has become necessary. A study has been carried out in Milan from 2001 to 2003 to evaluate the effect of tree injection on the leafminer, on parasitoids and on trees. C. ohridella generations were four every year on both treated and untreated plants. The number of captured males and leaf damage on treated plants decreased significantly in 2002 and 2003. The treatment did not interfere with parasitoid development and the species more frequently detected was Minotetrastichus frontalis Nees. The holes of treated plants showed a low percentage of cicatrization at the end of the season. Besides, many plants had cracks or necrosis into the trunk

L'arrivo in Italia del fillominatore Cameraria ohridella e la diffusione di Aesculus hippocastanum L. in molti parchi e viali cittadini hanno posto l'esigenza di impiegare tecniche di lotta che limitassero l'introduzione di principi attivi nell'ambiente. In tale contesto, ha trovato largo impiego l'endoterapia. E' stato condotto uno studio a Milano, dal 2001 al 2003, per valutare l'effetto dell'iniezione all'albero sui fillominatori, sui parassitoidi e sulle piante. Le generazioni di C. ohridella erano quattro per ogni anno, sia sulle piante trattate, sia su quelle non trattate. Il numero di maschi catturati e i danni alle foglie sulle piante trattate sono diminuiti significativamente nel 2002 e nel 2003. Il trattamento non ha interferito con lo sviluppo dei parassitoidi e la specie rinvenuta più frequentemente è risultata Minotetrastichus frontalis Nees. I fori delle piante trattate hanno presentato una bassa percentuale di cicatrizzazione alla fine della stagione. Inoltre, molte piante mostravano fessurazioni o necrosi nel tronco
