Estimates of genetic parameters to determine variability for foliage yield and its different quantitative and qualitative traits in vegetable amaranth (A. tricolor) [India]

إنجليزي. The present study was performed with the primary objective to assess the genetic parameters for different quantitative and qualitative traits in 39 strains of vegetable amaranth (A. tricolor). Each strain was sown in a randomized block design in plot size of 1 square m with row-to-row and plant-to-plant distance of 25 and 15 cm respectively. Data were recorded for 8 agronomic traits. Simultaneously another experiment was also conducted in RBD with three replications to record the total foliage yield and 7 quality traits. The plot size was 2 square m for each strain with row-to-row distance 25 cm and plant-to-plant 15 cm. During crop season four foliage cuttings were performed and data on total foliage yield per plot (kg) was taken comprising all the cuttings. The strain AV-41 showed highest foliage yield (5.99 kg/plot), followed by AV-42, AV-30, AV-13 and AV-31. The heritability estimates were high for all the traits except branches/plant and moisture content. The genetic advance varied from 0.996% for moisture to 98.30% for seed yield. A breeding plan for the enhancement of foliage yield and the quality characters is discussed

[Il presente studio è stato condotto con l´obiettivo primario di accertare i parametri genetici di caratteri quantitativi e qualitativi diversi in 39 popolazioni di amaranto orticolo (A. tricolor). Ognuna di queste è stata seminata in uno schema a blocchi randomizzati con dimensioni delle parcelle di 1 m quadrato con una distanza di 25 e 15 cm, rispettivamente, fra le file e sulla fila. Sono stati registrati dati per 8 caratteri agronomici. Contemporaneamente è stato condotto un altro esperimento con uno schema a blocchi randomizzati con tre replicazioni per registrare la resa totale in foglie e 7 caratteri qualitativi; la dimensione delle parcelle era di 2 m quadrati con una distanza tra le file di 25 cm e di 15 cm sulla fila. Nel corso della coltura sono stati effettuati quattro tagli di foglie e i dati sulla produzione totale di foglie per parcella (kg) sono stati ottenuti sommando tutti i tagli. La popolazione AV-41 ha mostrato la massima resa in foglie (5,99 kg/parcella), seguita da AV-42, AV-30, AV-13 e AV-31. Le stime dell´ereditabilità sono risultate alte per tutti i caratteri eccetto i rami/pianta e il contenuto di umidità. Il guadagno genetico variava da 0,996% per l´umidità a 98.30% per la produzione di semi. Viene discusso un piano di miglioramento genetico per incrementare la resa in foglie e le caratteristiche qualitative.]
