The genetics of haploid induction parameters, viz., seed formation, embryo formation and regeneration was studied by hybridizing five elite and genetically diverse genotypes each of Winter and Spring wheat ecotypes and their F1s (generated in diallel mating design) with a single genotype of maize, following wheat x maize system. The wheat genotypes exhibited significant effect on the haploid induction parameters based on the mean and combining ability studies. The diallel analysis of the data revealed the importance of both additive and non-additive gene action in the inheritance of all the three traits. The estimates of components of genetic variance and the relative magnitude of GCA and SCA indicated the preponderance of additive gene action for seed formation and embryo formation and that of non-additive gene action for regeneration. The average degree of dominance indicated partial dominance for seed formation and embryo formation whereas over dominance for regeneration. On the basis of GCA effects, the Spring wheat parents, HPW 42, UP 2418 and HW 3024 for seed formation and HPW 89 for regeneration, and the Winter wheat parents, Saptdhara for embryo formation and regeneration and WW 24 for regeneration, were identified as good general combiners. On the basis of SCA effects, 2 F1 hybrids for seed formation, 3 for embryo formation and 10 for regeneration were observed as the superior hybrid combinations

[E´ stata studiata la genetica dei parametri di induzione degli aploidi, cioè formazione del seme, formazione e rigenerazione dell´embrione, incrociando cinque genotipi elite geneticamente diversi, ognuno di ecotipi di frumento autunno-vernino e primaverile, e le loro F1 con un singolo genotipo di mais, seguendo il sistema frumento x mais. I genotipi di frumento hanno manifestato un effetto significativo sui parametri di induzione degli aploidi in base allo studio dei valori medi e della capacità di combinazione. L´analisi diallelica dei dati ha messo in luce l´importanza dell´azione genica, sia additiva, sia non additiva, nell´ereditarietà di tutti e tre i caratteri. Le stime delle componenti della varianza genetica e l´ampiezza relativa della GCA e della SCA stavano a indicare la preponderanza di una azione genica additiva per la formazione del seme e dell´embrione e di una azione genica non additiva per la rigenerazione. Il livello medio di dominanza segnalava una dominanza parziale per la formazione del seme e dell´embrione e una sovradominanza per la rigenerazione. In base agli effetti della GCA, i parentali di frumento primaverile, HPW 42, UP 2418 e HW 3024 per la formazione del seme e HPW 89 per la rigenerazione, e i parentali di frumento autunno-vernino, Saptdhara per la formazione dell´embrione e WW 24 per la rigenerazione, sono stati identificati come buoni combinatori generali. In base agli effetti della SCA, 2 ibridi F1 per la formazione del seme, 3 per la formazione dell´embrione e 10 per la rigenerazione sono stati riscontrati come combinazioni ibride superiori.]
