Endectoparasite control in finishing pigs: assessment of the efficacy of two control programs in three-sites production system

إنجليزي. A study to evaluate the efficacy of different control programs against parasitic infections in a three-site pig production system in Italy was carried out. All the pigs were from sows that had been pre-farrowing treated against parasites with macrocyclic lactones at 300 microng/kg l.w.. In the first program, pigs were treated with flubendazole in feed (Flubenvet 600 g/t for 5 days) at 90-100 days, approximately 35-40 kg l.w.. In the second program, pigs were treated with ivermectin in feed (IVOMEC Premix 400 g/t for 7 days) at 50-55 days, approximately 20 kg l.w.. The results show: 1) that the pre-farrowing treatment of sows is not able to control completely mange in growing piglets which are infected when they enter the fattening units; 2) the treatment is effective also when carried out before entering into the fattening units, when pigs weight approximately 20 kg l.w., protecting animals from re-infection during the fattening period also when the fattening period is quite long (9 months, 150-160 kg l.w.) to produce pigs for the ham industry. Compared to the standard treatment administered 2-3 weeks after the start of the fattening period, our program allows a saving on the total drug without influencing the treatment efficacy

إيطالي. E´ stato condotto uno studio volto al controllo delle infestazioni parassitarie in un sistema multi sito di allevamento del suino pesante (150-160 kg p.v.). I suini provenivano tutti da scrofe trattate pre-parto con avermectine in formulazione iniettabile (300 microng/p.v.). In un programma i suini sono stati trattati con flubendazolo (Flubenvet 600 g/t per 5 giorni) a 90-100 giorni di vita (35-40 kg p.v.), circa 2-3 settimane dopo essere entrati nelle unità di ingrasso. Nel secondo programma i suini sono stati trattati con ivermectina (IVOMEC Premix 400 g/t per 7 giorni) a 50-55 giorni di vita (20-25 kg p.v.). In totale sono stati coinvolti circa 70.000 suini provenienti da 3 siti di ingrasso. I risultati indicano che: 1) il trattamento delle sole scrofe con prodotti efficaci contro Sarcoptes non è sufficiente a controllare il parassita nei suinetti in accrescimento, che entrano nelle unità di ingrasso ancora infestati; 2) il trattamento dei suini a 20-25 kg p.v. (50-55 giorni di vita, prima dell´entrata nelle unità di ingrasso) è efficace e in grado di proteggere gli animali da episodi di reinfestazione nel corso dell´ingrasso anche quando questo è protratto per lunghi periodi (9 mesi) per ottenere suini pesanti da destinare all´industria del prosciutto. Rispetto al trattamento dopo 2-3 settimane dall´entrata nelle unità di ingrasso, il nostro programma consente un risparmio di farmaco senza influire sull´ efficacia del trattamento
