Comparison of pupation rate, whole cocoon weight and reelability percentage in hybrids performed in Institute of Sericulture [Japan] with those in Kanebo strain hybrids
2001
Iida, N. (Institute of Sericulture, Ami, Ibaraki (Japan))
Based on the date of a comparative study in hybrids performed in Institute of Silkworm Genetics and Breeding (the present name ; Institute of Sericulture) of the DAINIPPON raw silk foundation, difference in pupation rate, whole cocoon weight and reelability percentage between silkworm races were assesed atatically. As the results of the study, it was demonstrated that there was no significant difference in each evaluation item. Since the comparative study in the institute was performed under the well-controlled rearing conditions, which may not be equivalent in many points to those in sericulture farms it might be difficult to refer to the matter of popularity rate of these strains directly based on the above results. It is considered that further improvement of pupation rate, cocoon color, uniformity of cocoon shape and wrinkle of cocoon would be required as the future problems.
