Biodiversity of coastal fishes was studied at Tsuyazaki Town (33deg 48minN, 130deg 27minE), at northern coast of Kyushu, Japan from 2001 to 2004 with the aim to reveal the effect of global warming on fish fauna. In order to collect various coastal fishes as many as possible, several methods were employed, i.e. diving observation, scooping up the seaweed near shore, pulling the seine net on the beach. With these studies, we could confirm the fish species published previously and could add further 103 species. The total number of species recorded at Tsuyazaki, including the past records, totaled 503 species consisting of 156 families and 30 orders. The present study revealed that the number of warm water species is increasing. It was also suggested that the long term monitoring is essential to reveal the effect of global warming on fish fauna at Tsuyazaki.
