Wada, T.
Along the Coast of the Ise bays and sea of Kumano the fishermen active whale fishings in the Edo period. In the Edo period the whaling is important fishery for the lives of Japanese peoples. Now I wound like to do clearly on the Entity of Whaling for the matter on the Funds. the Labors, the Fishing method, the Management, the Distribution, and the Utilization of the Whales, ets, in the treatise. The Management type was the whole villager or the lord offeudal domain, or the Cooperation of villages, by the Enterpris men, etc. But most popular type is the Jigeami system in Kumano region. The Jigeami system did the management and the Labors, the Funds, the Distribution in profits, etc, by the all villager for the fishery. Therefore the social security system was ready, for example a dead person by fishing or to be able to do villagers paid a benefit from a profits of fishings. On the Edo period people did not eat a meat for the uncleanness idea in Japanese society. So people eat a whale flesh as substitute a meat. And the whale flesh was sent to the Siyougun or many the feudal lords as the presents. On the other hand the whale was used in every things. For instance the dungs of whales was apprized goods for the medicine or the scent goods, and it sent for trade between China from Nagasaki. The Whale oil was used for the lamp oil rice field. So that the whale fishery was a important industry for Japanese life in the Ede period.
