New sweet pea [Lathyrus odoratus] cultivar "Silky peach"

A new sweet pea cultivar with adaptability for the climate of Miyazaki Prefecture was developed from progeny of a combination of 'Mrs. Douglas MacArthur' / 'Easter Parade' at Miyazaki Agricultural Experiment Station. The crossing was conducted in 1991. The strain was repeatedly selected using the pedigree method. A fixed line raised in 1997 and was named 'Silky Peach' from its exquisite pale yellow pink color. The characteristics of 'Silky Peach' are as follows. 1. Plant type is tall. Degree of anthocyanin pigmentation of petiole base is few. 2. Flower form is waved. Flower diameter is medium. Colors of standard, wing and keel is pale yellow (JHS color chart No. 0702). The number of florets per inflorescence is 3 to 4. 3. Flowering habit is winter-flowering. When seeds is sowed in early September, the time of first bud appearance is early December. 4. A suitable seed cold storage period is 0 to 14 days. Adaptable regions for cultivation is hilly and mountainous area.
