Effects of post-crops green manure on potato productivity under ordinary and preservation agriculture

The effect of lupine and oilseed rape grown as post-crops and mixtures used as green manure on potato productivity was compared with that of farmyard manure and green material of lupine sown in spring for green manure under ordinary (A background) and preservation (background) agriculture conditions. The trials were conducted at the Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture, in Perloja Research Station during 1997-2001 on Hapli-Albic Luvisols (LVA-He). The highest green material yield 28.4 t/ha sup(-1) was produced by lupine sown in the spring. The yield of post-crop's green material was 2.2-2.6 times lower. The potatoes cultivated under ordinary conditions produced by 1.5 times or 51.2 more tubers as on the preservation agriculture conditions. The yield of potatoes correspondingly in A and B backgrounds under the influence of manure increased by 21 and 37 or 9.09 and 3.25 t/ha sup(-1). The green fertilizers mixture of lupine-rape increased the yield approximately by 14 and 33 or 2.05 and 2.91 t ha sup (-1). After lupine as green manure sown in the springtime the potatoes yield increased by 13 and 26. The percent of dry matter and starch was higher in the tubers of potatoes on the preservation condition
