Because dysregulation of cancer cell motility is generally considered to be a critical step in cancer progression such as invasive and metastatic stages, the effects of flavonoids including resveratrol, piceatannol, quercetin, and rutin on cancer cell motility were investigated in human fibrosarcoma HT 1080 cell line. HT 1080 cells were cultured in serum-free medium with various concentrations (0-400 μM) of each flavonoid. Wound healing assay showed resveratrol and piceatannol inhibited cell migration, and Boyden chamber assay also confirmed both flavonoids significantly inhibited cell motility dose-dependently (P less than 0.05).
