Excessive thatch causes difficulties in mowing, fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease control of turfgrass. This study was focused on the effect of thatch decomposing materials and cultural practices on thatch reduction. Treatments included 3 thatch decomposing materials, 1 organic fertilizer, and 3 cultural practices in 3 type of zoysiagrasses. Thatch thickness, dry weight of partially decomposed thatch and water content of thatch layer decreased with thatch decomposing material (Stubble-Aid) treatment in Z. japonica.
