An experiment was conducted at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, during 2001-2002 in order to study the effect of foliar application of 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2, 4-D) on various growth componentsincluding root and shoot length, number of leaves and number of branchesper plant, fresh and dry weight of root and shoots in mustard (Brassicacampestris L.). Three different concentrations of 2, 4-D were applied afterone, three, five and seven weeks from mean germination date. Significanteffect on growth parameters was observed when 10-3 M (C1) 2, 4-D wassprayed on the plants three to five weeks from germination date.Application of 10-6 M concentration of 2, 4-D also enhanced the growthparameters including plant height, number of branches per plant and dryand fresh shoot and root weight. It is concluded that foliar application of2, 4-D) can be useful in enhancing the growth of mustard.
