2003
Naeem, M.,Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Islamabad (Pakistan))Chohan, M.S.M
Eleven varieties of sorghum and a check were evaluated during kharif,2001 under irrigated conditions at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute,Faisalabad. Significant differences were observed for various fodder yieldcomponents such as plant height, number of plants per meter row, number ofleaves per plant, leaf area and green fodder yield. However, differences forstem thickness were non-significant. Plant height ranged from 91.56 (PARC-SS-2) to 243.53 cm (Hegari) while number of plants per meter row varied from15.07 (No. 1863) to 37 (Hegari). Maximum number of leaves (13.56) was producedby Hegari while PARC-SS-2 produced the lowest (9.56). Leaf area ranged from216.45 (PARC-SS-2) to 340.29 cm2 (Hegari) while stem thickness varied from0.96 (F-9706) to 1.23 cm (Hegari). The variety Hegari (62.65 t/ha) ranked firstin green fodder yield followed by F-9601 (61.10 t/ha) while PARC-SS-2 (30.86t/ha) produced the lowest. Most of the varieties performed better than checklocal Sheikhupura.
