A pot culture study was conducted to evaluate the effect ofdifferent levels of zinc on the leaf, soil and root concentrations of Znand starch content of paddy in eight different soil series of D.I. Khanat the research area of Faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University, D.I.Khan during 2000. Zn as ZnSO4 solution was applied at the rate of 0,0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 % by root dipping along with the basal doses of 120 kgN, 90 kg P2O5 and 60 kg K2O ha-1. Thirty days old four seedlings of arice cv. IRRI-6 were grown in each pot. Zn content of root and leafbefore and after flowering and soil content before flowering and afterharvest increased significantly (P less than 0.05) while a significantdecrease in starch content of paddy was recorded with increase in thelevels of Zn. Maximum Zn content of rice leaf before and after floweringand minimum starch content of paddy was observed with application of1.5 % Zn in these soil series. In Ramak soil series paddy had thehighest starch content while it was the lowest grown on Tikken soilseries. The interaction between Zn levels and soil series was also foundsignificant (P less than 0.05) for all the parameters except starch.
