Effect of different inputs on growth parameters and seed yield of mungbean

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of fertilizer,insecticide and weed control applied alone or in combination on mung bean cv.NM-92 under rainfed conditions at Research Farm of Arid Zone ResearchInstitute, D.I. Khan during kharif 2004. The study comprised various tentreatments as 1), control, 2) fertilizer, 3) hand weeding, 4) chemical weedicide,5) insecticides, 6). fertilizer plus hand weeding, 7) fertilizer plus chemicalweedicide, 8) fertilizer plus insecticide, 9) fertilizer plus hand weeding plusinsecticide and 10) fertilizer plus chemical weedicide plus insecticide inrandomized completer block design with three replications. Fertilizer was appliedat the rate of 20:50 kg N:P2O5 ha-1 as Diammonium phosphate (DAP) whilePendamethaline (3:7 L ha-1) was used as pre-sowing chemical weedicide andMethamidophos (1:0 L ha-1) as insecticide. Data showed that both yield andyield components were significantly increased as the treatment received acompleted doze of all recommended inputs i.e. fertilizer, weed control and plantprotection measures advocating the better effects of integrated management ofall inputs. Plant height, number of pods plant-1, 1000-seed weight, and seedyield was increased by 26, 57, 11 and 71%, respectively in treatment receivingfertilizer plus insecticide plus hand weeding as compared with control plots.With exception of number of seed pod-1 combination of fertilizer plus insecticideplus hand weeding was found better than combination of fertilizer plusinsecticide plus chemical weedicide, indicating hand-weeding superiority.Similarly the data revealed that combination of inputs with fertilizers had moreresponse as compared to sole dose of inputs or fertilizer itself. It could beconcluded from the study that integrated management approach for all inputsshould be adopted to increase the yield of mung bean under the prevailingconditions of D.I. Khan.
