The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of intensive pasture on the compaction of three sandy soils and on the growth of fodder crop cultivated as mixture of legumes with grasses. The field experiment was run on three sandy soils with different organic matter content (2.24, 3.27, 4.73 percent) during the years 2002-03. Soil bulk density was measured four times: at the beginning of plant vegetation and after three pasture periods. Two types of biometric measurements were done: determination of the leaf area and the index of chlorophyll content. It was found that the soils with higher organic matter content had lower values of soil bulk density
