The results of study on the effect of soil xenobiotics (pesticides: Lontrel 300 SL, Champion 50 WP and petrochemicals: disel fuel, no-lead) on growth and development of barley seedlings are presented in the paper. The soil was amended with 0.01, 0.1, 10 percent of fuel. Pesticides were added into the soil at following doses: 1, 10, 100 and 1000 mg/kg of soil. The influence depended of the type of pollutant, its level and soil type. Pollutants more affected the root system than above ground parts of plants. Herbicides Lontrel acted more strongly than fungicide Champion. No-lead petrol exerted the least effects
