Muscle deposition and meat quality are quantitative traits, what means that their final expression is affected by genetic and environmental components. The genetic component is a total of the expression of many genes. Among them a search is made for genes having the greatest effect on the given trait. Such genes are known as major genes and among them is counted the gene of pig susceptibility to stress and the gene determining the occurrence of acid, Hampshire type meat. The muscle deposition in pig carcasses, expressed as the percent content of lean meat in a carcass, is affected by many genes. Their share in the expression of this trait is currently being studied
